Certificates Arriving...
We're getting close to bringing this project to closure...
Meanwhile, the home received a Home Energy Rating Certificate with 5+ Stars and a final HERS Index of 57 (43% more energy efficient than a standard new home). We also received 234 State Street's certificate for being An ENERGY STAR® Version 2.5 Qualified Home. Finally, our Letter of Compliance for Lead Abatement is in the mail!

Finishing Touches
So, it has been a while since our last blog. We got distracted by another project (a comprehensive energy retrofit to convert a vacation home from a summer home to a four-season home), and oh, we've been busy. BUT, all the while we have been plugging away at the finishing touches at State Street...
Perhaps most importantly, we have submitted our LEED for Homes paperwork! Our LEED Green Rater and LEED Provider at the Center for EcoTechnology have approved our application for LEED Gold Certification. Woohoo! Now, we are waiting for final approval from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Meanwhile, we have written a comprehensive summary of the green features at 234 State Street. This summary can be viewed on the Green Home Features page of this blog.
Since we last wrote, at 234 State Street itself, the clawfoot tub plumbing was installed, tile found in the coop was reused as a backsplash behind the kitchen stove, the trash/recycling pullout in the kitchen was put in, the shoe storage bench was completed, a drip pan was installed under the washer/dryer (a required durability / moisture management measure), programmable thermostats were installed, the yard was cleaned up and seeded with Eco-Lawn grass mix, and many other finish items were addressed. All electrical and plumbing work is now complete, the heating system has been fired up, and we are ready to schedule a final inspection for the Certificate of Occupancy.
Oh, some interesting little tidbits we learned this month while trouble shooting final lighting issues:

- First: There is no such thing as a dimmable CFL. Really, don't believe the packaging, it just isn't true.
- Second: You cannot find a dimmable LED for a light that takes bulbs with a candelabra base.
- Third: But you CAN buy a nifty little widget online that converts a candelabra base to a regular lightbulb base. Whew. That was a close one. We were worried for a moment there that we might have to settle for incandescent dimmable bulbs! boo! Instead, we installed the light bulb base converter widget and bought some great dimmable LEDs for the kitchen pendant lights. Yay!

Almost Final Pictures
Here are some pictures of the 99% complete home! :)

Two pieces of good news on that front: 1) We're going for GOLD level certification! yay! and 2) Our final HERS (Home Energy Rating System) rating is a 56, even lower than we were shooting for! (more on the HERS rating later for those who have no idea what that means).
