So, to recap: After we gutted the house, we had do structural work, we developed new floor plans, and we framed the walls. The results are shown here.
The location of the new staircase was a major decision:

Here is a better look at the new wall framing for the front bedroom. We made the front bedroom a touch wider, and we built a front closet next to the front door:

We made the new staircase to the master bedroom relatively wide (4 feet), which came out nicely. At the top of the staircase in this picture, you can see the old clawfoot tub that we salvaged from the original bathroom downstairs for reuse in the master bathroom upstairs:
